What societal and economic challenges do Europe’s regions and cities face, and how can politicians, decision-makers, researchers, and practitioners collaborate to strengthen the European Union? This question is at the heart of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC), the largest annual event in Brussels dedicated to the EU’s cohesion policy. Many members of UASNL will be attending and facilitating sessions throughout the week, with a core message: applied research plays a crucial role in creating a resilient European economy by addressing challenges practically in regional and local context.
Why Our Members Are Attending the EWRC
Universities are increasingly vital in tackling societal challenges across Europe. These challenges are seen on all levels, including the regional and local level. Universities of Applied Sciences are well-positioned to address the challenges on this level, through their research and innovation approaches. Utilizing problem-oriented methodologies, in collaboration with local SMEs, knowledge institutes, municipalities, regional authorities and relevant community organizations within a robust regional ecosystem, while ensuring the research and innovations can be scaled to a European level. The EWRC presents a key opportunity for networking and cooperation among UASNL members, other European universities, regions, cities, and policymakers.
