HAS green academy

Practice-oriented research

HAS green academy has been successfully responding to changes in agriculture, food and living environments for 75 years. The social challenges in these areas are now greater than ever. We want to use our expertise to contribute to small and large scale solutions for current and future issues. This is why HAS green academy is both a university of applied sciences and knowledge institution.

13 professors, 3 associate professors and 75 lecturer-researchers collaborate with research assistants, students, lecturers and professionals from the sector on a leading research agenda that involves practice-oriented research projects, both in the Netherlands and internationally. More information about international projects can be found at https://www.has.nl/en/research/has-international-projects/.

Research programme

A strong and coherent research programme is required to realise our ambitions, to be conducted by a strong and resilient research organisation. We have selected three key focus areas, which will be prioritised in our research programme until 2030:

  • Healthy food production:food systems that respect people, animals and the planet.
  • Healthy food and healthy living: healthy food production, a healthy food environment and healthy food choice behaviour.
  • Healthy ecosystems: a biodiverse and climate adaptive landscape.

By selecting these focus areas, and providing further clarification on them in research programmes with underlying research questions, we maintain a focus on knowledge development and in the formation of strategic partnerships. Each focus area is shaped by a research group with a team of professors, lecturer-researchers, project employees and research assistants.
